Sua santità il Dalai Lama: “Ho già detto che, se volete farmi un regalo di compleanno, il meglio che potete fare è contribuire all’adempimento dei miei tre impegni …!

Vorrei ringraziarvi profondamente per i cordiali auguri che molti di voi mi hanno inviato il giorno del mio compleanno, il 6 luglio 2019. Ora ho 84 anni, ma spero di poter celebrare l’occasione con tutti voi per molti altri anni a venire.

Ho già detto che, se volete farmi un regalo di compleanno, il meglio che potete fare è contribuire all’adempimento dei miei tre impegni: promuovendo i valori umani più profondi, basati sul sentimento d’unicità dell’umanità, con l’obiettivo di creare una società più compassionevole; incoraggiando l’armonia e la comprensione tra le principali tradizioni religiose del mondo, e preservando la lingua e la cultura tibetana, il patrimonio tibetano ricevuto dai maestri dell’Università di Nalanda in India, mentre ci si dedica anche alla protezione dell’ambiente naturale del Tibet.

Inoltre, sono impegnato con tutto il cuore nel far rivivere tra i giovani indiani d’oggi l’apprezzamento dell’antica conoscenza indiana.

Abbiamo bisogno di introdurre la compassione e la cordialità nel nostro moderno sistema educativo per renderlo più olistico. Gran parte delle turbolenze che assistiamo in tutto il mondo si verificano perché le persone sono sopraffatte da emozioni disturbanti che possono essere difficili da affrontare.

Credo che la ricca comprensione del funzionamento della mente e delle emozioni che troviamo nelle antiche tradizioni indiane sia oggi rilevante. Sarebbe estremamente proficuo esaminare ed applicare queste conoscenze e valori come una disciplina umana di base, e non da un punto di vista religioso. His Holiness the Dalai Lama : “Much of the turmoil we witness across the world occurs because people are overwhelmed by disturbing emotions that can be difficult to tackle.:.”

July 10, 2019. I would like to thank you deeply for the warm greetings that many of you have sent me on my birthday, 6 July 2019. I am now 84 years old, but I hope to be able to celebrate the occasion with all of you for many more years to come.

I have said before that if you would like to make me a birthday gift, the best you can do would be to help in fulfilling my three commitments—promoting deeper human values based on a sense of the oneness of humanity, with the aim of creating a more compassionate society; encouraging harmony and understanding among the world’s major religious traditions: And preserving the Tibetan language and culture, the heritage Tibetans received from the masters of India’s Nalanda University, while also working for the protection of Tibet’s natural environment.

In addition, I am whole-heartedly committed to reviving an appreciation of ancient Indian knowledge among young Indians today. We need to incorporate compassion and warm-heartedness into our modern education system to make it more holistic. Much of the turmoil we witness across the world occurs because people are overwhelmed by disturbing emotions that can be difficult to tackle.

I believe that the rich understanding of the workings of the mind and emotions that we find in ancient Indian traditions remains relevant today. There would be great value in examining and applying this as a basic human discipline, and not from a religious point of view. Just as we teach physical hygiene to stay physically fit, we need to cultivate emotional hygiene, learning to tackle our destructive emotions, so as to better achieve peace of mind.

Wherever I am, I share these ideas with anyone who wishes to listen. If you would like to help, I would be grateful if you could do the same.

8 Luglio 2019 . Il Dalai Lama ha compiuto 84 anni e i suoi seguaci in Nepal hanno sperato di celebrare l’evento nella capitale, Kathmandu, ma il governo comunista ha respinto la loro richiesta.

Kathmandu – La comunità tibetana in Nepal ha cancellato i piani per celebrare il compleanno del loro capo spirituale il Dalai Lama dopo che la loro richiesta di una celebrazione pubblica è stata respinta per motivi di sicurezza, ha detto oggi un funzionario del governo.

La Cina, che considera il Dalai Lama un pericoloso separatista, ha aumentato la sua influenza nella nazione himalayana che ospita circa 20.000 tibetani.

Thekchen Chöling, Dharamsala, India – This morning, His Holiness the Dalai Lama met with 15 educators from India, Germany, Brazil, Mexico, Finland, USA, Australia, Bangladesh, Britain, and Russia, who are participating in an initial roundtable conference on the theme, ‘Human Education in the 3rd Millennium’. After His Holiness had entered the room and asked everyone present to relax, Project Coordinator, Margarita Kozhevnikova explained that the present conference was in preparation for a world forum about education. She outlined four areas of interest: education policy, being human, education for democracy and human oriented education. She introduced Scott Webster who was to moderate the morning session. He summarized what had been discussed so far.

He told His Holiness that as far as educators are concerned, things are getting worse. Schools and universities are increasingly focussing on training students in skills for jobs. Human flourishing is not addressed. If values come up, it’s only in relation to work and being a worker as opposed to being a human being. Education is being reduced to what can be measured. Teachers find they are unable to be creative so the opportunity to provide human education is lost. The policies that govern this are written by governments or by businessmen, not by professional educators.

There is a consensus among educators that there is more to being human than being an economic unit as a worker or consumer. Knowledge and skills have a role, but there is a need for values too. July 7, 2019, Thekchen Chöling, Dharamsala, India – There was a brightness in the air after overnight rain this morning as His Holiness the Dalai Lama met Community Representatives, Staff and Students of Tong-Len, a small charity working with displaced Indian communities in the area around Dharamsala. Tong-Len aims to help these homeless communities gain access to basic human rights and to break the cycle of deprivation through education. To this end, the charity has established its own school and provides hostel accommodation for those children in most need. His Holiness greeted the two dozen visitors as he entered the room. He told them that as far he could remember Tong-Len was the initiative of Ven Jamyang, a Tibetan monk, who was visiting Dharamsala to attend teachings and meditate. He noticed that children from the slums begged and picked over rubbish, but received no education—he decided something should be done. “We human beings have a special brain,” His Holiness explained, “and we need to be educated if it is to develop properly. H.H. th Dalai Lama: “Whether the institution remains or not, my own rebirth will continue. It is a different matter whether people designate him the next Dalai Lama. In one of my daily prayers I always say that as long as space remains, and as long as the living beings’ sufferings remain, I shall be there to serve them and to dispel their misery.”

The 14th Dalai Lama, who turned 84 on 6 July, talks about his 60 years of exile in India, his commitment to the cause of Tibetan freedom and his vision for the future in these excerpts from interviews he did with Vijay Kranti over the last four decades.

On 6 July, Tenzing Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet celebrated his 84th birthday. Three months ago, he completed his 60 years of exile in India. A lot of water has flown through Brahmaputra, locally known as Tsangpo in Tibet, since this monk ruler escaped from his China-occupied country in March 1959 to save his life from the People’s Liberation Army that crushed the Tibetan uprising at a cost of over 80,000 Tibetan lives (as per UN documents). In the meanwhile, China has emerged as a military and economic superpower and has successfully converted its newest colony into a fortress with a huge network of cantonments, airbases and nuclear stations in addition to a flood of Han settlers who have already outnumbered the ethnic Tibetan population.

Even though the Dalai Lama’s “government in exile” at Dharamshala has yet to get its first recognition from any world government, Chinese rulers expose their helpless vulnerability on the faintest mention of the words “Dalai Lama” or “Tibet” in any world forum or capital. In their over enthusiasm to stamp their final control over Tibet by installing the next incarnation of the current Dalai Lama, Beijing’s two religious search committees, each headed by a senior communist leader, have already completed two dry runs by identifying the new reincarnations of Panchen Lama and the Karma Pa over the past two decades. They have made innumerable attempts to woo the Dalai Lama to return and settle in Beijing to give moral and political legitimacy to China’s rule over Tibet that Beijing misses miserably. Secondo fonti tibetane migliaia di monaci e monache, costretti a lasciare il centro buddista tibetano Yachen Gar nella provincia occidentale del Sichuan in Cina e obbligati a tornare nelle loro città d’origine sono stati “radunati” dalle autorità e saranno sottoposti a  “rieducazione politica”.

In una campagna che ha avuto inizio a maggio, le deportazioni hanno riguardato principalmente i residenti provenienti da zone al di fuori del Sichuan che soggiornavano nel vasto complesso del tempio nella prefettura di Kardze, Palyul.  Si stima che negli ultimi anni aveva ospitato circa 10.000 monaci, suore e praticanti laici dediti allo studio delle Scritture e alla meditazione.

Parlando a RFA, un tibetano residente nella zona ha detto che “le autorità cinesi hanno ordinato che il numero di monaci e monache che soggiornano a Yachen Gar non superi le 4.700 unità, e per questo molti monaci e monache sono stati allontanati con la forza dall’istituto. Quei monaci e suore che sono stati forzatamente riportati ai loro luoghi di nascita sono strettamente sorvegliati  dalla polizia cinese locale e obbligati a  frequentare corsi di rieducazione politica [nelle prigioni] nelle loro città d’origine”. As Buddhist monks, in our daily meditation, we think as sentient beings, what we also call mother sentient being. So, my daily prayer is, “So long as space remains, so long as sentient beings remain, I remain in order to serve them.” Acharya Shantideva (one of the great ancient acharyas) said these words…. There are other galaxies in this universe where we have no connections and we can only pray for them (the beings there). But we have a connection with this galaxy; within the galaxy, with this world. And within this world, with the human beings, animals and birds. We can communicate with human beings but not so much with animals. …The human mind can [help us] communicate with each other. So when we pray, [we pray for] all the sentient beings; [for] the seven billion people on this planet. I am one of them. My effort is to make a small contribution towards the wellbeing of the seven billion human beings. By wellbeing, I mean not just at the physical level, but also at the mental level.

You have personally known several Indian leaders, starting with Jawaharlal Nehru. How close have you been to them?

Pandit Nehru was very kind to me; he advised me under difficult circumstances. I followed his advice, and it was very practical. I came to India in 1956, during Buddha Jayanti. At that time, many Tibetan officials told me that I should stay in India and not return. They were fearing the Chinese troops. I discussed with Pandit Nehru, who said that it was better if I returned to Tibet. He carried a copy of the 17-point agreement [of 1951 between the Tibetan leadership and the Chinese government]. Dharamshala: A Lebanon based reporter Karim from OTV Lebanon was accorded an opportunity to obtain an exclusive interview with His Holiness the Dalai Lama on 27 June 2019 at the residence of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Dharamshala.

Below is the full transcript of the interview.

Karim: Thank You His Holiness for accepting our invitation. His Holiness, Lebanon in the Middle East is a multi-cultural country. We have a Christian President, we have a Speaker who is a Muslim Shia, we have a Prime Minister who is a Muslim Sunni. Talking about myself, I am a Christian married to a Muslim wife. So this is Lebanon and this is Lebanese diversity. I want to ask you first do you think such co-existence can hold on and survive?

His Holiness the Dalai Lama: Oh yes. I believe that is the only way. In ancient time, you see people are more or less isolated. Now modern time 21st century, information comes from different parts of the world which makes the world smaller. Similarly, in religious faith, you get different information about different religion which is always available. Then, a different mental disposition is useful for different ways of approach. Therefore pluralism of religion in the modern time is the reality. Based on that reality, mutual respect must be practised and consider religious faith as a personal matter. It is very good that you as a Christian husband and your wife as a Muslim is a wonderful thing! Thekchen Chöling, Dharamsala, India – Il 5 luglio, alla vigilia dell’ottantaquattresimo compleanno di Sua Santità il Dalai Lama, circa trecento membri dell’Amministrazione Centrale Tibetana (CTA) in pensione e oltre duecento loro famigliari hanno offerto preghiere e un elaborato rituale per la lunga vita di Sua Santità. Il cortile fino al Tsuglagkhang, il Tempio Principale Tibetano, e i viali di accesso era stati addobbati da decorazioni dai colori cerimoniali brillanti, in netto contrasto con il cielo grigio dell’imminente monsone. Sua Santità è stato accompagnato dalla sua residenza al Tempio dall’ex Kalön Tripa, Tenzin Namgyal Tethong, Presidente del Comitato del personale del CTA in pensione, da Lobsang Jinpa e dal Disciplinare del Monastero di Namgyal, il Venerabile Tenzin Norbu.

Come è sua consuetudine, Sua Santità si è fermato a salutare amici e devoti lungo la strada, soprattutto con i bambini del Tibetan Children’s Village. July 5, 2019. Thekchen Chöling, Dharamsala, India – This morning, the day before his 84th birthday, about 300 retired staff of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) and 200 members of their families offered prayers and an elaborate ritual for His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s long life. The path through the middle of the yard to the Tsuglagkhang, the Main Tibetan Temple, had been decorated in bright ceremonial colours which contrasted with the grey sky of impending monsoon. His Holiness was escorted from his residence to the Temple by former Kalön Tripa, Tenzin Namgyal Tethong, Chairman of the Retired CTA Staff Committee, Lobsang Jinpa and the Disciplinarian of Namgyal Monastery, Ven Tenzin Norbu. As is his wont, His Holiness stopped to greet friends and well-wishers on the way. On several occasions children from the Tibetan Children’s Village School were visibly thrilled that he had spoken to them. Inside the temple, His Holiness greeted the Sikyong with members of the present Kashag, the Chief Justice, and Speaker of the Parliament in Exile. Sua Santità il Dalai Lama: Molti dei problemi che abbiamo sono creazioni nostre, e ci dimentichiamo dell’unità dell’umanità. Siamo un mondo unico, eppure ce ne dimentichiamo e pensiamo in piccolo

Milioni di persone provenienti da ogni parte del mondo hanno percorso questo sentiero di montagna. A distanza riesco a vedere i picchi innevati dell’Himalaya. Vedo fra gli alberi centinaia di bandierine di preghiera dai colori vistosi appese qui e là. E sull’altra parte della stradina, varie ruote della preghiera, in fila, che vengono fatte girare vorticosamente dalle mani delle persone che ci passano accanto. Questo percorso (devozionale, ndt: il Khora) è assai famoso per via che è vicino e gira attorno alla residenza del Dalai Lama, uno dei leader spirituali più conosciuti al mondo.

Sono R.V. e sono venuta quassù al nord dell’India nella cittadella di Dharamsala per incontrare il Dalai Lama. E’ un capo religioso che ha incontrato numerosissimi capi di stato e sovrani e tuttora rappresenta la sua lotta portata avanti da ben 6 decadi da quando vive in esilio.

(si sente la voce di un narratore di un vecchio documentario che racconta la tragedia del Tibet, << … del misterioso Tibet, già avvolto nel mistero in quanto nazione, in cui vi sono state le sollevazioni della popolazione per protestare contro l’invasione della Cina … >>) Nel 1959 le truppe cinesi si sono riversate in Tibet a scontrarsi contro migliaia di tibetani che avevano fatto una dimostrazione. La Cina pretende di avere l’egemonia sul Tibet, l’altipiano del Tibet separato dall’India da una elevata catena montagnosa. Molti tibetani avrebbero voluto l’indipendenza. Temendo per la sua incolumità quel monaco, allora ventitreenne (il Dalai Lama) era fuggito. (Voce del narratore del documentario: ) <<Il giovane Dalai Lama, considerato dal suo popolo come un Buddha vivente, era stato arrestato, dicono alcune fonti, mentre altre fonti indicano si trovi in salvo, nascosto da qualche parte. …>>

Dopo un viaggio periglioso di due settimane a cavallo il Dalai Lama era arrivato in India, la nazione che lo ha accolto.

Sua Santità mette sempre in guardia dall’idea di dividere il mondo in “noi” e “loro” e suggerisce che la soluzione ai molti dei problemi che oggi ci troviamo ad affrontare è ricordarci che, come esseri umani, siamo tutti fratelli e sorelle, appartenenti a un’unica famiglia umana e che solo insieme possiamo agire per fare fronte alle sfide globali che ci attendono

2 luglio 2019. Le osservazioni fatte da Sua Santità il Dalai Lama durante una recente intervista alla BBC hanno causato un’inquietudine che abbiamo ritenuto importante affrontare. In primo luogo, rispondendo a una domanda sulla possibilità che la sua stessa reincarnazione possa essere una donna, e suggerendo che dovrebbe essere attraente, Sua Santità non intendeva certo arrecare offesa a nessuno. E’ profondamente dispiaciuto che qualcuno si sia sentito ferito da ciò che ha detto e se ne scusa sinceramente. Sua Santità ripete costantemente la necessità che le persone si relazionino tra loro ad un livello umano più profondo, anziché rimanere invischiate in preconcetti basati su apparenze superficiali. Questo è un pensiero che tutti coloro che hanno la possibilità di incontrarlo conoscono molto bene e apprezzano. Nel suo contesto originale, il riferimento del Dalai Lama all’aspetto fisico di una donna quale suo eventuale successore risale a una conversazione avvenuta nel 1992 con l’allora direttrice della rivista Vogue France, che aveva domandato a Sua Santità non solo di affiancarla come editor del numero in uscita, ma anche se futuro Dalai Lama avrebbe potuto essere una donna. Sua Santità all’epoca rispose: “Certamente, se sarà di maggior beneficio”, aggiungendo scherzosamente che avrebbe dovuto essere essere attraente. His Holiness consistently emphasizes the need for people to connect with each other on a deeper human level, rather than getting caught up in preconceptions based on superficial appearances.

Remarks made by His Holiness the Dalai Lama during a recent BBC interview have caused disquiet that we felt it was important to address. 

Firstly, in responding to a question about whether his own reincarnation could be a woman, and suggesting that if she were she should be attractive, His Holiness genuinely meant no offence. He is deeply sorry that people have been hurt by what he said and offers his sincere apologies.

His Holiness consistently emphasizes the need for people to connect with each other on a deeper human level, rather than getting caught up in preconceptions based on superficial appearances. This is something everyone who has the chance to meet with him recognizes and appreciates. The original context of his referring to the physical appearance of a female successor was a conversation with the then Paris editor of Vogue magazine, who had invited His Holiness in 1992 to guest-edit the next edition. She asked if a future Dalai Lama could be a woman. His Holiness replied, “Certainly, if that would be more helpful,” adding, as a joke, that she should be attractive. La pacifica protesta tibetana alla 41a sessione del Consiglio dei diritti umani a Ginevra

I tibetani in Liechtenstein e in Svizzera hanno organizzato una protesta pacifica alla 41a sessione del Consiglio per i diritti umani che si è tenuta ieri a Ginevra.

I tibetani hanno esortato i paesi membri ad esercitare pressioni sulla Cina affinché aderisca alle norme internazionali sui diritti umani.

Circa 50 membri della comunità tibetana hanno protestato dalle 11:00 alle 16:30. Presenti  il rappresentante del Tibet Bureau, Sig. Chemey Rigzin, membri di ONG tibetane, sostenitori del Tibet.

Rigzin ha parlato a lungo della terribile situazione che regna in Tibet in questo momento.

Norbu, il presidente della comunità, ha affermato che gli stati membri presenti al consiglio dovrebbero cercare di alleviare la sofferenza dei tibetani all’interno del Tibet attraverso il consiglio per i diritti umani.

I manifestanti hanno anche presentato un appello all’Alto Commissario delle Nazioni Unite, Michelle Bachelet, in cui viene affermato che, poiché sono trascorsi 30 anni dalla formulazione della Convenzione sui diritti dell’infanzia, il Consiglio dovrebbe chiedere alla Cina di fare chiarimenti sulle sorti dell’11 ° Panchen Lama, rapito nel 1995.
